Well I remember when I was young.
Hi Readers,
Before I get into the blog post, I’d just like to say a few things:
- I know I have been away for a while. Basically it comes done to not being in the right mood to blog. But hopefully I am back now.
- Apart from Dale, you are all a bunch of mongrels. Go and donate to Light The Night, or I send around ninjas to pee on your toilet seat.
- I know I missed Crap Joke Thursday yesterday. Mike was meant to do one last week, so I was hoping he would get around to doing it this week. Obviously he failed, so one week ban Mike.
Now onto the blog post:
My grandfather was a tough bastard. I say was, even though he is still alive, because dementia has taken a hell of a toll on his life.
But I learnt some important things in my life from him, two of which stick to mind always. Not only do I get a bit of a giggle when I remember them, but I think they are very wise words to pass on to anyone.
The first was “Just because you have a licence, it doesn’t mean you know how to drive.” At the time he told me this, I had had my licence for a couple of years, and he said it as he turned right in front of a car that was turning left. Sure at the time it had only been about a year since the changed the rule to Left before Right (stupid rule, I digress), but I thought it was an excellent example of having a licence and not knowing how to drive.
The second thing he told me was on the occasion of my 18th birthday. These words of wisdom are so wise, I think it should be made into a birthday card that the Prime Minister sends out to people when they turn 18. At the time I had a bit of a giggle about it, but really, it was something that really made me think twice before doing anything. The words? “Happy birthday. Now that you are 18, it means you can go to an adult prison…, THINK ABOUT THAT.”
There are a lot of things I have been told over the years. Some wise, some insane, some just obviously people attempting to be control freaks, only concerned with their own view, and not the best interests. Regardless, while some of these things have been negative, or emotional, they have shaped me as a person. We all have these little things that we learn over the years, so feel free to add yours in the comments.

“In life, you have privileges, not rights.”
Since I’ve become a union rep., there are times when you DO have rights as opposed to privileges.
“It’s not what you can see, but what you know is there, which is important.”
A variant of the “can’t tell a book …” …
“You always regret the one you missed out on”.
Dale: Good comments there Dale, I might use them as a blog post at some point.
Why am I not surprised?
Darn it all, I’m going to do the same thing, regardless.
